Public Safety and Livability
Public safety is one of my top priorities. When people feel their community is safe, it produces a sense of well being, and creates neighborhoods that are vigorous, vital, and livable. When people feel a community is not safe, they will not make it their home, or come to play, learn, or visit.
A List of my accomplishments include:
- Double-digit crime reduction in the ward, and in our City
- Over 800 plus problem properties in the ward registered, inspected and corrected
- Authored new gas shut-off ordinance which has become a national model to prevent vacant-house explosions
- Passed stronger rental property licensing and noise ordinances
- Ordered Third Ward Clean Sweeps to improve the entire Ward
- Collaborated with city departments and neighborhoods to shut down long-term problem businesses that had been havens for illegal activity CARE--Initiated monthly Community And Resource Exchange community committee meetings to deal with problem properties, mortgage foreclosures, and safety issues, promoting timely and innovative solutions
- Initiated LINC--Liquor Industry 'N the City bi-monthly forums with the Second Police Precinct and City of Minneapolis departments on order to promote best practices in operation of licensed premises

The bar's license was revoked under Diane's leadership with the licensing department of regulatory services of the city of Minneapolis. The closure signaled the commitment of the community toward the elimination of problem businesses in the third ward and our city. Johnny A's was a long term location for drug dealing and other illegal activities.
